SANDRA TRUJILLO

This group of ceramic figures titled “dia del trabajo” is about labor.  The context or ground for these figures vacillates between the solidity and permanence of cement and the unexpected changes of water.  My primary intent with this body of work was to depict the seemingly futile nature of labor in order to describe solidarity.
The size, scale, proportion and absence of color of this work were chosen to create distance between the objects and viewers.  I imagine that we relate to miniatures as we relate to games, toys, bugs, and to all of the smaller things under our control.   Here, the arrangement of the figures was not intended to be a device for play, or for planning tactics of war, or even to control for that matter, but to create scenarios that address complex social issues about labor and climate.
